Minute with Morgan: Introducing Cambium’s Evo Platform: Gigabit Solutions at Megabit Prices

By Morgan Kurk

At WISPAPALOOZA in Las Vegas I was excited to announce our new platform – Evo, which converges the best of our PMP 450 and ePMP™ technologies to redefine the cost/performance curves in fixed wireless broadband. Cambium’s Evo platform gracefully migrates from legacy products to a Gigabit at the edge solution with economics in mind, enabling WISPs to protect their investments while providing economic fiber-like solutions in hard-to-reach places.

What Is Evo?

Cambium has many years of expertise in wireless connectivity, and our goal has always been to provide reliable, scalable, and economical broadband solutions to the WISP community. Evo is the next step in that journey. The Evo platform is designed to ensure Gigabit at the edge in areas where deploying fiber is cost prohibitive. It achieves this by leveraging advanced wireless technologies across multiple frequency bands and will even work simultaneously in licensed and unlicensed spectrum.

Addressing Today’s Key Challenges

During my presentation at WISPAPALOOZA, I highlighted the three principles guiding the development of Evo: it must be economically compelling, provide future demand capability, and protect current capital investments.

  1. Economic Viability: We understand that for network operators to thrive, the solutions they deploy must make a compelling financial return. Evo is engineered specifically to take advantage of commercial silicon in the SM to drive down cost, while delivering ever increasing performance.
  2. Gigabit at the Edge: While few applications require Gigabit service, providing that capability while simultaneously being able to address a multitude of clients without increasing latency is crucial to compete with alternative technologies. Evo enables more spectrum utilization, more flexibility and new technology to reuse spectrum to minimize latency while providing high data rate service.
  3. Investment Protection: Evo integrates seamlessly with your current Cambium equipment, allowing you to protect your previous investments while upgrading your network. Whether you are using our PMP or ePMP systems, Evo will enhance your network’s capabilities without forcing you into an expensive rip-and-replace scenario.

The Technology Behind Evo

Evo’s innovations are numerous, including dual- or tri-band radios, multi-user MIMO, Massive MIMO, interference mitigation, spectral reuse factor one, OFDMA and Multi-Link Operation (MLO), among others. This ensures your network can handle increased traffic and maintain performance even in the most congested environments and that you can offer the solution at an affordable price. Evo access points come in various configurations—ranging from 2×2 to 16×16 MIMO setups—to meet the unique needs of your deployments.

Whether you’re providing broadband for residential areas, small businesses, or industrial applications, Evo offers unmatched flexibility.

Standards-Based and Software-Defined

We’ve designed Evo to be both standards-based and software-defined, ensuring you can meet current and future needs with ease. The standards-based approach ensures cost effectiveness, while the software-defined elements give you the agility to innovate to solve challenges that may not be known today.

Why Evo?

This platform is built to last. With Evo, you can grow your network without growing your costs, thanks to its compatibility with your existing Cambium infrastructure. It’s simple: with Evo, you’ll have the ability to deliver Gigabit speeds at a price point that works for your business model. And because we’ve built Evo with investment protection in mind, you can upgrade your network incrementally rather than all at once.

Looking Ahead

Evo is the evolution of our portfolio, driving Gigabit solutions at a megabit price point. It’s designed for operators who need a high-capacity, high speed network at an affordable price. With Evo, you’re not just investing in a platform—you’re investing in the future of your network.

I’m incredibly excited about what Evo means for the industry, and I’m confident that it will help you meet the challenges of today’s broadband landscape while positioning you for tomorrow’s opportunities.

I encourage you to visit our Evo webpage or contact your Cambium sales representative or distributor for a detailed discussion. If you missed our presentations during WISPAPALOOZA, or would like to learn more, join us for a recap webinar on Tuesday, October 29. We look forward to building the future of connectivity with you.
