Cambium Networks Wi-Fi from the Beach to the Beacon

By Cambium Networks

Tilson Technology of Portland, Maine selects Cambium Networks ePMP™ and cnPilot™ products to deliver seamless Wi-Fi coverage for the 21st running of the prestigious Beach to Beacon 10k. Drawing competitors both international and local for the foot and wheelchair divisions, the Beach to Beacon spurs incredible athleticism and enthusiastic support for each year’s fundraising beneficiary – in 2018, Maine’s own Winterkids.

In years past, connecting the race course for communications necessary for event staff, medical teams, media coverage, and spectators sharing on social platforms was a significant hurdle. The finish line of the race is located at the site of America’s most photographed lighthouse, the Portland Head light in Fort Williams – which though iconic, offers physical obstructions to wireless signals such as embankments and reinforced bunkers.

Tilson Technology overcame that hurdle literally, erecting towers to mount ePMP radios that delivered high-capacity connectivity from above the obstructions. cnPilot e500 outdoor access points then distributed the signal throughout the coverage area encompassing the approach to the finish line and beyond.
